The Garmin 255 is the latest addition to Garmin’s advanced group of GPS navigators. It is pre-loaded with features previously unavailable in the nuvi line or found only in high-end top GPS models.
It sports a 3.5 inch antiglare touchscreen, full color display in front of a white backlight which allows the device to be read from any angle or in the sunlight. It also includes pre-loaded maps of the U.S. and Canada.
In addition, Garmin nuvi 255 has text-to-speech and that allows you to hear “drive one-half mile, then turn left on High Street.” instead of just “drive one-half mile, then turn left.” That little extra detail voiced makes for an even more care-free drive
Key features include:
- a large collection of about six million points of interest (POI) like restaurants, local attractions, hotels, ATM machines and banks, fuel stations etc.
- Also, the 255 is capable of inputting custom POI from third parties, allowing the user to enter their own places of interest.
- A digital elevation map for better indication of actual location.
- “where Am I?” emergency locator to zoom in on exact location like closest intersections or addresses as well as providing the exact coordinates of your location.
Going beyond navigation, the Garmin 255 also includes several helpful travel tools such as the world time clock with accurate time zones, currency and measurements converter, a JPEG picture viewer, calculator.
An alternative would be the Garmin nuvi 255W, the widescreen version of the 255. It has a 4.3 inch wide touchscreen that shows 70% more road space. For drivers that desire even greater knowledge of the surroundings at a glance, the 255W fits the bill exactly.
